Make Artificial Maple Syrup at Home
To some people, maple syrup is essential on pancakes, waffles, and French toast. It's also used in baking recipes, such as desserts. This recipe will show you how to make your own homemade maple syrup.
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon maple flavoring or extract
Steps
- Place a saucepan onto the stove and turn the heat on to low until water is added.
- Pour the two sugars, brown and granulated, into the pan and mix, make sure it doesn't burn.
- Pour the water, carefully, into the pan and add the salt.
- Mix the mixture and achieve a boil.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and finally add the maple extract.
- Let the maple syrup cool, plus store in an airtight container.
Tips
- If you dislike the fake maple taste, use brown sugar and omit the artificial maple flavoring. You can leave the brown sugar flavor alone or add a little cinnamon, vanilla, or molasses for the maple flavoring.
- For this recipe, you can add any combination of sugar, whether it's 2 cups of granulated, 2 cups of brown, or a cup of each. However, you must stick to the rule of "two parts sugar to one part water"; meaning for every 2 cups of (any) sugar, you must have 1 cup water. If you wish to double the recipe, it would then be 4 cups (any) sugar to 2 cups water.
