Make Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies

Here's a tasty sweet chocolate chip cookie recipe with a savory twist due to the addition of bacon bits. Topped off with a sweet maple glaze, these cookies are a unique treat for the bacon and chocolate lover.

Ingredients

Cookies:

  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • ⅔ cup packed brown sugar
  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon hazelnut extract (essence)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (essence)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose or plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups bacon bits (real bacon only - not artificial)

For the Maple Cinnamon Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon maple extract (essence)
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract (essence)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Enough water to make a thick glaze (about 3 tablespoons but add gradually as you can always add more if needed)

Steps

Making the Cookies

  1. Beat together the butter, sugars, Make Your Own Flavor of Juice and eggs. Beat until the mixture becomes creamy.
  2. In another bowl, sift together the dry ingredients. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and stir together. The dough will be slightly soft.
  3. Add in the chocolate chips and bacon bits. Stir until these additions are well integrated.
  4. Place the dough on a sheet of Wrap a Sandwich in Wax Paper and refrigerate for at least an hour or until firm (the time needed may vary).
  5. Preheat the oven to 350ºF/180ºC
  6. Remove the dough from the refrigerator. Pinch off 1 1/2 inch (3.8cm) pieces of dough and roll these into balls.
  7. Set the dough balls about 2 inches (5cm) apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten the dough balls slightly by placing your fingers in the center of them.
  8. Bake the cookies for about 10-12 minutes, or until the dough starts to turn golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool on a Choose a Wire Cooling Rack for Baking.

Making the Maple Cinnamon Glaze

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together until smooth and creamy. If lumpy, use a whisk to remove the lumps.
  2. Spread or drizzle a small amount of the glaze on the top of each cookie. Allow to set briefly and then the cookies are ready to serve.



Tips

  • Store the cookies in an airtight container if there are any leftovers.
  • It takes about 2 pounds (900 grams) of bacon to make 2 cups of bacon bits. Be sure to pat the bacon using a dry napkin to remove any excess grease.
