Make Chicha Morada
Chicha morada is a Peruvian drink that is derived from purple corn. This beverage's flavor is unlike any other drink. It has a sweet and refreshing taste and looks like grape juice.
Ingredients
- 1 and 2/3 lbs of dried purple corn
- 1 medium to large pineapple
- 1 and 2/3 lbs of apples
- 4 whole cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 lemons or 4 limes
- 1 cup of sugar
- 8 cups of water
Steps
- Wash and peel the apples and pineapples. Save the peels and peeled fruit. Wash the lemons and purple corn, too.
- Take the cinnamon, whole cloves, apple and pineapple peels, and all the purple corn. Put them in a 3 quart pot filled with 4 cups of water
- Boil the purple corn mixture for 45 minutes.
- Stir occasionally.
- Strain the juice into a separate 3 quart pot. Refill the first 3 quart pot with another 4 cups of water.
- Reuse the solid purple corn mixture from the first batch. Add 4 cups of water. Boil again.
- Let the mixture sit for a half hour or until cooled.
- Take both mixtures and pour them into the container.
- Put the container with all of the strained liquid into the refrigerator.
- Take the cooled drink out of the refrigerator.
- Add 1 cup of sugar. Add more until it is suitable to your taste.
- Cut the four lemons. A Squeeze the juice out of the lemons into drink, to taste.
- Serve the beverage in a glass. If desired, add a piece of pineapple that has been cut up.
Tips
- Boiling the corn is crucial because it extracts the juice from the corn into the water.
Warnings
- When this drink is made there will plenty of it, roughly a gallon or more.
