Make Coconut Laddu

Laddu (or Laddoo) is an Indian sweet that is often prepared to celebrate festivals or household events such as weddings. The popularity of Laddu is due to its ease of preparation.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 2 cups freshly grated coconut
  • 1/2 cup dried powdered coconut
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 tin Milkmaid / condensed milk
  • Sugar as needed

Steps

  1. In a heavy bottomed pan, add ghee & then fresh coconut gratings. Roast for a minute.
  2. Add Milk maid.
  3. Cook over low flame mixing it continuously for about 4-5 minutes. The coconut cooks in the condensed milk.
  4. Add cardamom powder.
  5. When the mixture leaves the sides of the pan, remove from flame & let it cool down for about 5-10 minutes.
  6. Apply ghee on your palm & shape the mixture into small laddus.
  7. In a plate or any other flat base, add dried coconut & roll each laddu in it, so that the dry powder coats well onto the laddu.
  8. Finished.

Tips

  • Garnish with roasted almonds or cashew nuts.
  • Colored coconut bits can be sprinkled over the Laddus.

Warnings

  • While adding the condensed milk, make sure to stir continuously else the mixture will get burnt at the bottom. Hence add the condensed milk in small quantities.
