Make Coffee Granita

Coffee granita is a wonderful way to enjoy a slushie drink. With you own whipped cream on top, it can be the ultimate coffee cooler for the summer.

Ingredients

  • Coffee, brewed (enough for as many glasses as you'd like to make)
  • Sugar to taste
  • Monin maple syrup (or similar), 15% sugar content, to taste
  • Garnish of whipped cream

Steps

Coffee Granita

  1. Get a bowl and combine the sugar and coffee grounds. Pour the boiling water in and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  2. Place the sieve over the container and strain the mixture. Set the container aside and allow it to cool down.
  3. Use Use Saran Wrap to cover the container. Place it into the freezer for about 2 hours.
  4. Remove it from the freezer after the 2 hours. Take off the wrapping and use a fork to break up the coffee mixture.
  5. Mash it until you get more of a "slushie" iced mixture. Put back the wrapping and re-freeze the container for another 30 minutes.
  6. Remove the container from the freezer and throw away the plastic wrapping. Use a fork to break up any big chunks and achieve a flaky texture.
  7. Use a spoon to serve the granita into glasses. Top the drink off with whipped cream and enjoy!
  8. Finished.

Brewed Coffee and Maple Granita

  1. Brew your favorite coffee. Make as much as you wish to transfer to glasses.
  2. Dissolve sugar in the coffee. Add the sugar to taste.
  3. Let it cool.
  4. Place in the freezer.
  5. Pour in some Monin maple syrup. The sugar content must be at least 15%.
  6. Mash to crush into a slushie-like form.
  7. Serve. Pour into tall glasses. Add a straw and a bit of whipped cream.

Tips

  • If you want a really great kick to the drink, add an Pull a Shot of Espresso. Depending how hot the shot is, it may melt the coffee granita.
