Make Dessert Pizza

Dessert pizzas make great treats. There are many different kinds out there – the toppings can range from fruit slices and cream cheese to more decadent fare like chocolate-hazelnut spread and marshmallows. The crusts vary, as well. The three most popular crusts for dessert pizzas are made of sugar cookie dough, graham crackers and regular pizza dough. Many of the toppings in these recipes can be customized according to your personal tastes.

Steps

Making a Chocolate Pizza with Homemade Pizza Crust

  1. Gather the ingredients for both parts of the recipe. This recipe has two main parts – creating the pizza dough crust and preparing the toppings. You can substitute purchased pizza dough for the homemade dough if you want to save some time.[1]
    • If you use purchased dough, the recipe will take about 40 minutes to complete.
    • If you make the homemade dough, it will take an additional hour and 15 minutes.
    • The ingredients will make 1 pound (450 grams) of pizza dough for the Chocolate Pizza.
  2. Combine the warm water with the active dry yeast. Put these two ingredients in a small bowl and blend them together. The water needs to be at a temperature between 105°F to 110°F (40.5°C to 43°C). Depending on how hot your tap gets, you may be able to use water straight from it. Run the tap until it gets warm and fill a measuring cup. Use a kitchen thermometer to test the temperature before adding the yeast.[1]
    • If the water is not warm enough, put it in the microwave for a few seconds or heat it up slightly on your stove.
    • If it’s too warm, let it sit for a minute or so and then use the thermometer to check the temperature again.
    • After you’ve combined the yeast and water, allow the mixture to stand for about 5 minutes while the yeast dissolves.
  3. Mix the flour and salt together in a food processor.[1] While the yeast is dissolving, blend 2 cups (240 grams) of flour and 1 teaspoon (5 grams) of salt in a food processor. A food processor isn’t required, but the results are usually more consistent and it’s much easier to work with. If you don’t have a food processor, you will need to stir the ingredients vigorously at every stage.[4]
  4. Add the oil and then the yeast mixture. Once the flour and salt are mixed, blend 3 tablespoons (45 milliliters) of olive oil in. After the oil is well-mixed, keep the food processor running and add in the yeast mixture (make sure the yeast is dissolved first). Continue blending until the ingredients are mixed together and a ball of dough forms.
    • Carefully remove the dough from the machine.[1]
  5. Knead the dough ball on a lightly floured surface.[1] Sprinkle a flat workspace with flour and place the dough on it. Knead the dough until the texture is smooth, which should take about 1 minute. To knead, push the dough down and then stretch it out with the heels of your hands. Then fold over the top half of the dough and press down into it. Push out again with the heels of your hands.[5]
    • Repeat these same gestures to knead the dough.
    • Continue the kneading process for 1 minute.
  6. Pour several tablespoons of oil into a large bowl. Turn the bowl so that the sides are coated. Place your dough ball into the oiled bowl. Turn the dough over several times so that it’s coated in the oil. Cover the bowl (plastic wrap will work fine) and place it in a warm area, away from any drafts. Let the dough set until it doubles in size, which will take about an hour. Once it has doubled, punch down into the dough one time and then form it back into a ball shape.[1]
    • The pizza dough is now ready to use.
    • You can use it right away or store it in your refrigerator for up to 24 hours in an airtight container.
  7. Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough to a 9-inch-diameter round. Sprinkle a flat work surface lightly with flour and use a rolling pin to flatten the dough into a round shape that is about 9 inches in diameter. If the dough sticks to your rolling pin, rub a little flour all over the pin and then roll the dough out again.[1]
    • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and place the oven rack on the bottom of the oven.
  8. Bake the crust for 20 minutes. Use parchment paper to line a large baking sheet. Once you’ve rolled the dough into a 9-inch round, carefully place it on the parchment paper. Make small indentions all over the dough – you can use your fingers for this. Warm up about a tablespoon of butter and brush it evenly onto the surface of the dough.
    • Put it into the preheated oven and bake it for about 20 minutes.
    • The crust is ready to be taken out when it looks golden brown and lightly crisp.[1]
  9. Spread the chocolate-hazelnut spread onto the warm dough. Use about ¼ cup (60 grams) of the spread and apply it to the crust immediately upon removing it from the oven. Sprinkle the 3 different kinds of chocolate chips all over the top. Place the pizza back into the oven for about 1 minute, or until you see the chocolate starting to melt.[1]
    • Feel free to add peanut butter chips, shredded sweetened coconut, chopped nuts or any other toppings of your choice.[6]
    • Remove the pizza from the oven carefully and then sprinkle the toasted hazelnuts on top.
    • Cut it into wedges using a pizza cutter and serve the dessert immediately.

Preparing an Easy Fruit Pizza with Sugar Cookie Crust

  1. Gather the ingredients. This quick and easy dessert pizza is a great summer treat and makes use of all the delicious fruits in season. Feel free to add or take away any that you don’t like – it’s a very customizable recipe.
    • This fruit pizza will take you about 30 minutes to put together and 15 minutes to cook.
    • The simple dough is made with store-bought sugar cookie dough (16.5 ounces/468 grams).
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare the dough. Remove the sugar cookie dough from its packaging and press it out flat on a 6-inch round pan. Once the oven is preheated, bake the crust for about 11 to 15 minutes. It should be firm to the touch when it’s ready.[2]
    • Remove the crust from the oven.
    • Allow the crust to cool while you finish preparing the rest of the dessert.
  3. Slice the large fruits and prepare the cream cheese “sauce.” There’s no need to slice blueberries or raspberries, but the larger fruits should be sliced into bite-sized pieces. Once completed, put the sliced fruits aside. Mix 8 ounces (230 grams) of softened cream cheese and 1 cup (100 grams) of confectioners’ sugar in a medium-sized bowl until it is well-blended.[2]
    • The cream cheese should be softened so that you can easily spread the mixture over the sugar cookie crust.
  4. Spread the cream cheese on the cooled crust and add toppings. Wait until the cookie crust is cool to the touch, then spread the cream cheese sauce thickly over it. Take the fruits you’ve prepared and sprinkle them over the top. Arrange the fruit slices in whatever way that appeals to you. Kids love this part! Reserve a small amount of berries to add last.[2]
    • Drizzle over the fruit with chocolate syrup and sprinkle the remaining berries on the top.
    • Use a pizza cutter to slice the dessert into wedges and serve immediately.

Creating a S’mores and Brownie Pizza with Graham Cracker Crust

  1. Gather the ingredients. This recipe features a crunchy graham cracker crust that’s spread with rich brownie batter, chocolate chips, chocolate bar pieces and mini marshmallows.
    • The graham cracker crust is prepared from scratch, but you will be using a store-bought brownie mix (18-20 ounces/510-567 grams).
    • It only takes about 20 minutes to prepare, but it won’t be complete for about 2 hours.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) (or 325°F/163°C for dark or nonstick pan). You will use a 12-inch round pizza pan for this dessert. Spray or grease the pan generously before moving forward with creating the graham cracker crust.[3]
  3. Create the crust and bake it for 8 to 10 minutes. Mix the butter, graham cracker crumbs and sugar in a bowl. If you are making your own graham cracker crumbs, go ahead and mash about 24 squares until they are reduced to granular crumbs. Melt 1/3 cup (76 grams) of butter by placing it in the microwave for a few seconds until it becomes liquid. Mix the melted butter with the graham cracker crumbs and 3 tablespoons (45 grams) of sugar in a medium bowl until well-blended. This is your crust.[3]
    • Press the crust mixture out flat onto the pizza pan.
    • Bake it for about 8 to 10 minutes.
    • You’ll know it’s ready when it appears golden brown.
  4. Create the brownie batter and bake it for 23 to 25 minutes. Mix up the brownie batter by following the box directions. Once you’ve mixed the required ingredients for the brownie batter of your choice, carefully spread the brownie batter on top of your now-baked graham cracker crust. Place the dessert back into the oven.[3]
    • Bake it for about 23 to 25 minutes. Remove it when it’s done.
    • You’ll know it’s ready when you can insert a toothpick into the center and it comes out mostly clean.
  5. Set your oven to broil and add your toppings. As soon as you take the dessert out of the oven, sprinkle the mini marshmallows and larger graham cracker pieces all over the top of the warm brownie. Place it back into the oven, with the oven set to broil, for about 1 to 2 minutes.[3]
    • You’ll know it’s ready to take out when you see that the marshmallows have turned golden brown.
    • Be sure to watch it carefully, since marshmallows begin to brown very quickly.
  6. Sprinkle the chocolate chips onto the browned marshmallows. The warm marshmallows will slightly melt the chocolate chips. Allow it to cool for about 20 minutes and then add the finishing touches – the chocolate bar pieces. Wedge them into the melted marshmallows so that they stay in place.[3]
    • Allow the pizza to cool completely, which will take about an hour.
    • Use a pizza cutter to slice the dessert into wedges and serve.
