Make Food Dye Become Permanent in Hair

This article will show you how to make any food dye into permanent hair dye for a natural look. This dye will be permanent, so in the end you will have long lasting hair color.

Steps

  1. Wash hair with plain shampoo a few times. This will open up the hair to make it more porous. If your your hair is dry and dries fast after it gets wet, then your hair is already porous and it is recommended that you skip this step.
  2. Dry your hair, but not completely. It should still retain some moisture.
  3. Mix food dye and conditioner. Place in a small bottle, about the size of a travel conditioner bottle. How much dye you need will depend on the length and thickness of your hair, as well as how bold you want the color to be.
  4. Put dye in hair and work it through completely.
  5. Put on a shower cap.
  6. Allow it to sit for about 30 minutes.
  7. Rinse it thoroughly in the shower with warm water.
  8. Allow to dry and style as desired.

Tips

  • For black, use 2 drops of green, 3 drops of blue, and 3 drops of red.
  • Once you are satisfied with the results, rinse with cold water to close the pores of your hair.
  • Deep condition every two weeks to keep your hair soft.
  • You can put on an old hat over the shower cap while you're waiting so it looks better. It will also keep your head warm which will allow the pores of your hair to remain open.
  • Just like any other hair dye, this can damage your hair over time.
  • Make sure to wear gloves. It will stain your hands.

Warnings

  • Food dye may stain carpet and clothing.
  • This will be just as permanent as real hair dye
