Steps

Making Basic French Dressing

  1. Place ingredients in a large blender. Place all of the ingredients except the oil into a large blender.
    • Don't place in a small blender. If you do this, the ingredients may explode all over the counter.[1]
  2. Puree the ingredients. Watch to make sure all the ingredients combine together. Continue this until the onion is completely pureed.[2]
  3. Pour in the oil. While you are pureeing, slowly pour the oil into the blender.[3]
  4. Refrigerate. After you finish, chill the dressing in the refrigerator for a few hours before using.[4] You can store the dressing in an airtight container for up to 7 days.[5]

Making Creamy French Dressing

  1. Pour ingredients into a food processor. Pour all the ingredients into a food processor. Do not put the oil in yet. Keep it aside.
    • The addition of mayonnaise is what makes the dressing creamy.
  2. Process the ingredients. Use the food processor to combine the ingredients until they are smooth.[6] Continue processing until the onion is completely pureed.[7]
  3. Add the oil. Slowly add the oil into the dressing as you process it.
  4. Refrigerate. The dressing is best if served chilled, but can be served immediately. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.[8]
  5. Try some variations. Some other spices and flavors you can add to the dressing include 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of paprika.[9] You can also try 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce.[10]
