Make Frosted Rose Petals

Frosted rose petals are ideal as an addition to cake toppings. They stick to the icing as it dries and if you would like a simple but elegant design, simply toss them across the top of a cake to finish it. In the image shown here, you can see the frosted petals attached to the side as part of an overall design, which is another effective although more work-intensive design.

Ingredients

  • 2 unsprayed roses, pink, red etc.
  • 1 egg white (pasteurized)
  • Caster / confectioner's sugar (fine sugar)

Steps

  1. Wash the rose petals if needed. If this is necessary, do it gently to avoid bruising and ensure that they dry completely - place them on a wire rack to dry.
  2. Lightly beat the egg white in a small bowl.
  3. Brush the petals on the top half with egg white.
  4. Sprinkle with sugar on the side with the brushed egg white.
  5. Place the petals on the wire rack to dry. Once dry, they are ready to add to your cake or other baked item.

Things You'll Need

  • Wire cooling rack for drying
  • Small bowl
  • Egg whisk
  • Pastry brush
