Make Hershey's Cocoa Hot Chocolate
Everyone knows how to make hot chocolate using a mix, but that's not as fun! But homemade hot chocolate is just as easy and tastes great. This recipe is a simple way to make hot chocolate using cocoa powder. Great at parties or get-togethers.
Contents
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup (56g) Hershey's Cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- Dash of salt
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) hot water
- 4 cups (1 quart/950 ml) milk
- 3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Steps
- Mix cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and salt together in a medium saucepan.
- Add the water; mix well.
- Place over medium-high heat.
- Allow it to boil.
- Add the milk, and stir occasionally until the liquid reaches the desired drinking temperature. Do not boil.
- Remove from heat and add the vanilla extract.
- Pour into mugs and serve!
- Finished.
Tips
- It helps to add more milk than the recipe calls for, that way the cocoa taste isn't as strong. If you don't like that taste as much, add about another 1/4-1/2 cup.
- The kind of milk you use matters. Two percent is the best kind to use for this recipe.
- Try adding coffee instead of part of the milk. Or cinnamon. And if you're really daring, add cinnamon and cayenne pepper: "Mayan hot chocolate"!
- If you are serving more than four people, double the recipe. For more than 8 people, triple the recipe.
Warnings
- Use a pot big enough to hold at least 5 or 6 cups of liquid. Otherwise, you'll end up having hot chocolate all over the counter and stove top.
