Make Microwave Popcorn Extra Buttery

Do you just wish your popcorn was as buttery as movie theater popcorn? Well now you can make that dull microwave popcorn just like the popcorn at the theatre. Read on to find out how!

Steps

  1. Pop a bag of microwave butter popcorn according to the directions.
  2. Take a small dish and fill it with up to a quarter pound (1 stick) of butter (note... a baby sippy cup works very well for melting butter. The First Steps cup doesn't get overly hot, and you can pour using the sippy spout)
  3. Microwave the butter until it melts; about 30 seconds if whipped and 1 minute if cold.
  4. Place the popcorn you just popped into a bowl.
  5. Take out butter and pour over the microwave popcorn.
  6. Toss the popcorn to allow the butter to coat it evenly.

Tips

  • This recipe works best with normal butter and microwave popcorn.
  • Place a paper towel over the microwave safe bowl - while it allows the butter to "breath", if it does explode (or even bubble) the paper towel will catch any near-spills.
  • If you are making kettle popped popcorn, simply put the desired amount of butter in the pan the popcorn was made in, and wait for it to melt. Then pour it over your popcorn, and enjoy.
  • If you are pouring the butter over the entire batch of popcorn, then I suggest you eat the popcorn fast because the the butter will make the popcorn soggy.
  • If you want it eat the popcorn slow, then put the butter in a little bowl or a small cup and dip each kernel at a time. Reheat the butter for a few seconds if the butter gets cold. Enjoy!
  • To make sure popcorn doesn't get soggy, place popcorn in a bowl and butter in bowl of equal or bigger size. Put bowls together and shake vigorously to spread equally.
  • If the butter is running the risk of exploding in your microwave, but there is still a decent amount unmelted, use a butter knife to stir the unmelted butter around. It will melt in a few seconds.
  • Keep any eye on the butter while it is in the microwave. If it begins to bubble a lot, or it sounds like it's boiling, stop the microwave, wait, and start it up again.

Warnings

  • The butter may "explode" and cover the ceiling and/or walls of your microwave with liquid butter. It is a pain to clean off. Keep an eye on it if it begins to bubble a lot. Or just cover the dish with a paper towel and no worries!
  • Butter will be hot after being melted.
  • It is high in fat content due to the butter.
  • Butter contains a lot of fat, which means that your popcorn will contain more calories. Therefore you should eat less of it.
