Ingredients

  • 2 heads of cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 tsp seasoning salt
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 2 - 16 oz. jars or cans of sauerkraut
  • 1 lb bacon
  • 8 oz. water

Steps

  1. Mix ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, seasoning salt, garlic salt, and rice together - set aside.
  2. Cut the cabbage hearts out of the cabbage heads.
  3. Blanch cabbages (Bring a pot of water to a boil, and put in the heads of cabbage to soften the leaves. Leave in about 15 minutes until you can remove each leaf.)
  4. Pull off the top leaves carefully. When you get as many large leaves as you want, set them aside.
  5. Put meat mixture into leaves and roll like a burrito.
  6. Layer the stuffed leaves into a big pot (between layers add some sauerkraut (including juice).
  7. Cut up left over cabbage and put it on top of the layers.
  8. Add 8 oz. water.
  9. Layer bacon on top.
  10. Simmer about 2 hours with lid on pot.
  11. Finished.
