Make Swiss Steak Using Canned Tomatoes

Swiss steak is a favorite with many people. Easy to make and tasty to eat, it's a great recipe to make and enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs. round steak
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp. dry mustard
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 - 14 1/2 oz. can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 3 carrots, diced
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Steps

  1. Mix flour and mustard. Sprinkle over steak.#Pound with a meat mallet.
  2. Cut steak into serving-size pieces.
  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  4. Heat oil in a heavy frying pan over medium-high heat.
  5. Add meat and cook, turning once, until meat is browned on both sides.
  6. Add tomatoes and their liquid, then remaining ingredients.
  7. Cover and bake until mixture starts to bubble.
  8. Reduce heat and continue to cook for about 1 1/2 hours.
  9. Finished.
