Make Table Placemats from Cloth

Whether you have no time or money to run to the store or you just want to give your table a unique, cozy, and personalized flair, you can make Make Artwork Placemats from your fabric stash or scrap bag if you're willing to put your sewing machine to work.

Steps

  1. Cut two rectangles the size of the desired mat plus half an inch (1.25 cm) in all directions (to allow for seams).

  2. Sew the two rectangles together with printed or "right" sides facing together, leaving a 3-4 inch gap for turning.

  3. Miter the corners.

  4. Turn it "right" side out.

  5. Slip stitch the opening closed.
  6. Top stitch around the perimeter.

  7. Congratulate yourself, as you have just sewn a placemat!
