Make Your Facebook Speak Pirate

Facebook users may change their interface language to English (Pirate). This feature is only available on the web version of Facebook—the language is not compatible with the Facebook app. Once you change your account’s interface language, weigh anchor into facebook, check yer bottle o' messages, and check which o' yer mateys arr aboard!

Steps

Changing the Language Settings, Mobile and Tablet

  1. Open a web browser. The English (Pirate) language is not compatible with the Facebook app. As a result, if you are using a mobile device or tablet, you must log into Facebook through a web browser.
  2. Navigate to Facebook.
  3. Click on the “More” icon. This icon—three vertical lines—is located in the top, right-hand corner of the screen.
  4. Scroll down to the “Help & Settings” section.
  5. Select “Language”.
  6. Select “English (Pirate)” from the list of languages.
  7. Choose your second language. Since English (Pirate) is not a universal language, you must select a second language. Tap your preferred second language.
    • If you do not see your preferred second language, click “More Languages”. Select your preferred second language from the list.
  8. Click on the home icon and enjoy your new English (Pirate) interface. This square icon is located in the very top, left-hand corner of the screen.
    • This change will not apply to your Facebook app.

Changing the Language Settings, Computer

  1. Click the downward pointing arrow icon. This icon is located in the very top, right-hand corner of the browser window. Clicking it will activate a drop down menu.
  2. Select “Settings” from the drop down menu. You will be brought to your account’s “General Settings” page.
  3. Click “Language”. “Language” is located in the sidebar on the left-hand side of your screen.
    • If you are using a mobile device or tablet, “Language is located under the “Help and Settings” section.
  4. Click “Edit” to the right of “What language do you want to use Facebook in?”
  5. Click on language directly below “Show Facebook in this language.” This will activate a drop down menu.
  6. Select “English (Pirate)” from the drop down menu.
  7. Click Save Changes.
  8. Click “Home Port” to exit the “Language Settings” page. Explore your English (Pirate) Facebook Interface.[1]

Selecting “English (Pirate)” on Your Homepage, Computer

  1. Click “Home”. This will bring you to your Home Screen.
  2. Scroll down the page until you see the language section. This section is located within the right sidebar under the “Trending” section.
    • This section is not labeled. It contains a list of popular languages.
  3. Click + within the language section. A pop-up window with a list of languages will appear.
  4. Select “English (Pirate)” from the list. The pop-up window will close and your Facebook interface will automatically change to English (Pirate).

Changing your Facebook Interface, Web Browser

  1. Click the downward pointing arrow icon. If you are using a mobile device, click on the “More” icon.
  2. Select “Settings” from the drop down menu. If you are using a mobile device, scroll down to the “Help & Settings” section.
  3. Click “Language”.
  4. Select “Mend th’ Sails” to the right of “What language do you want to show Facebook in?”
    • Mobile users can skip this step.
  5. Click on “English (Pirate)”. This will activate a drop down menu.
    • Mobile users can skip this step.
  6. Select or tap your preferred language from your list.
  7. Click “Stow Changes”.
    • Mobile users can skip this step.
  8. Click “Home” to exit the “Language Settings” page. If you are using a mobile device, click on the home icon to exit the “Language Settings” page.[2]
