Make a Boo Boo Bunny

A Boo Boo Bunny is a cute way to help a small child's bruise heal quickly. It involves folding a washcloth a certain way so it takes on the appearance of a rabbit, which will already cheer the child up before they use it. If you'd like to know a very clever way to make a child feel better after a "boo boo," read on to learn how.

Steps

Making a Single Roll Bunny

  1. Spread out a square-shaped washcloth on your table. Try to choose the softest washcloth you can find. After all, it will be going on "boo boos."
    • Try to find something measuring about 13 by 13 inches (33.02 by 33 centimeters).[1]
    • Use white, brown, or cream for a realistic bunny.
    • A soft color, such as baby blue or pastel pink, is ideal for a baby.
    • Consider using your child's favorite color.
  2. Fold the wash cloth in half diagonally. You want to end up with a triangle shape. If your washcloth as a soft side and a not-so-soft side, then fold it so that the soft side is on the outside.
  3. Roll the triangle up into a tight tube. Start rolling from the top, pointed part towards the flat, folded part. Make sure that you roll it up tightly, or the bunny will be too loose and drop the ice.
  4. Fold the tube in half. You should end up with a narrow U-shape. The two loose ends will become the ears.
  5. Fold the tube in half again. Grab hold of the two loose ends and bring them toward the folded, center part of the U-shape. Hold your bunny tightly.
  6. Wrap a rubber band about 1 to 2 inches (2.54 to 5.08 centimeters) from the second fold.[2] Keep wrapping until the rubber band is nice and snug. This will make the head, of the bunny.
  7. Tie a ribbon around the neck to hide the rubber band. Cut a 12 to 14 inch (30.48 to 35.56 centimeters) long piece of ribbon, and tie it around the bunny's neck in a bow.[2] Position the bow just to the left or right of the ears.
    • Try to use a thinner ribbon. ¼ to ½ inch (0.64 to 1.27 centimeters) would be ideal.[3]
    • You can use any color of ribbon you like, but consider using a contrasting color. For example, if the bunny is white, use a pink ribbon. If the bunny is cream colored, try a blue ribbon.
  8. Add a nose, mouth, and some eyes. Use fabric glue to glue a small, pink pompom to the middle of the face to make. Add some googly eyes right above the nose. Use fabric glue to attach them, even if they are adhesive.[1] If you don't have googly eyes or pompoms at home, try one of the following options instead:
    • Draw the eyes, nose, and mouth on using a permanent marker.[4] Make the nose pink, and the eyes blue or black. If you want, you can add some whiskers as well.
    • Sew or glue on a pink button for the nose, and two black or light blue buttons for the eyes. If you are using glue, be sure to use fabric glue.
  9. Glue a large, white pompom onto the back of the bunny using fabric glue. This will make the tail. Do not use a cotton ball, however; they fall off too easily, and can be swallowed by very young children.
  10. Add an Have Fun With an Ice Cube in the hole in the back of the bunny. You can use a regular ice cube or "reusable" ice cube. Reusable ice cubes are made from plastic, so they don't get wet or soggy.[5]
    • If the hole is too small, you can carefully widen it with your fingers. This will move the rubber band closer to the front of the head.
  11. Place the bunny on the 'boo boo'. The washcloth doesn't allow the ice to touch the skin, so it numbs it in a more comfortable manner. This is what makes it more suitable for children than an Make an Ice Pack Quickly. To help your child feel better, consider saying one of the following poems:[6][7]
    • If you fall and bump your knee,/Ask for a little help from me./I’ll hold a piece of ice for you./Your boo-boo will be good as new!
    • If a boo-boo has you feeling crummy,/Stick an ice cube in my tummy./Hold it to your boo-boo tight,/Soon everything will be alright!
    • When the tears begin to flow,/From a bruise or bump or blow,/Boo-Boo Bunny is so nice,/In its tummy holding ice,/Gently soothing all the while,/Sadness turning into a smile.
    • Boo Boo Bunny is here today,/To help your boo boo go away./This funny, fuzzy, furry friend,/Will cool the hurt to help it end./She'll make the ouch go bye-bye fast,/So hold her until the pain has passed./And when the boo-boo is all through,/She'll still be here to play with you.

Making a Double Roll Bunny

  1. Spread out a square-shaped washcloth on your table. Try to find the softest material you can find. After all, it will be going on "boo boos."
    • Something that measures about 13 by 13 inches (33 by 33 centimeters) would be ideal.
    • Use white, brown, or cream for a more realistic bunny.
    • A soft color, such as baby blue or pastel pink, is perfect for a baby.
    • Consider using your child's favorite color.
  2. Roll two corners towards each other. Pick two corners that are opposite each other. Roll both of them towards each other until they meet in the center.[8]
  3. Fold the tube in half. Bring the two pointy ends towards each other. Make sure that the crease is on the inside.[4]
  4. Fold the tube in half again. Grab hold of the two loose ends and bring them toward the fold/curved part of the U. Hold onto the bunny tightly.
  5. Wrap a rubber band about 1 to 2 inches (2.54 to 5.08 centimeters) from the second fold. Keep wrapping the rubber band until it is nice and snug. This will make the head, of the bunny.
  6. Hide the rubber band by tying a ribbon around the neck to hide the rubber band. Cut a piece of ribbon that is about 12 to 14 inches (30.48 to 35.56 centimeters) long, and tie it around the bunny's neck in a bow. Place the bow to the left or right of the ears.
    • Try to use a ribbon, ¼ to ½ inch (0.64 to 1.27 centimeters) wide.
    • The ribbon can be any color you want, but the bunny might look more interesting if the ribbon is a contrasting color. For example, if the bunny is white, use a blue ribbon. If the bunny is cream colored, try a pink ribbon.
  7. Add nose, eyes, and mouth. Use fabric glue to attack a small pink pompom for the nose, and two googly eyes for the eyes. If you don't have any of these at home, try one of the following options:
    • Draw the eyes, nose, and mouth on using a permanent marker. Make the nose pink, and the eyes blue or black.
    • Sew on a pink button for the nose, and two black or light blue buttons for the eyes. You can also glue the buttons on instead using fabric glue.
  8. Use fabric glue to attach a large, white pompom onto the back of the bunny. Do not use a cotton ball. Those fall off easily and do not last long.
  9. Stuff an Have Fun With an Ice Cube into the hole in the back of the bunny. You can use a regular ice cube or "reusable" ice cube. Reusable ice cubes are great because they are made from plastic. They don't melt like regular ice does, so they get wet or soggy.
    • If the hole is too small, you can carefully widen it with your fingers. This will move the rubber band closer to the front of the head.
  10. Place the bunny on the 'boo boo'. The washcloth keeps the ice from actually touching the skin, making it ideal for young children.
