Make a Copyright Symbol on a Computer
If you need to use a copyright symbol but aren't quite sure how to type it, there are a few easy answers.
Steps
Easy Methods
- Copy and paste this symbol, as the quickest way: ©
- If you're using Word, use the auto-replace feature. Just type (+C+). Word will automatically enter the copyright symbol instead.
- If you're using another program on a Mac, hold down ⌥ Option+G.
- If you're using another program on a Windows PC, hold the Alt key and type 0169 in your number keypad. It won't necessarily work if you use the numbers at the top of your keyboard.
- If you are using a laptop that has a function key (Fn) then hold down Alt+Fn as you type the numbers.
- You may need to have Numlock on for this to work. If none of these options work, try the Character Map method (below).
Using the Character Map (Windows)
- Open the run dialog box by holding down the Windows and R key.
- Type in charmap.exe and hit ↵ Enter.
- You will be presented with a character map
- Click on "Advanced view", if not already open.
- Search for "copyright."
- Select the character, copy it and paste it to your required file.
Tips
- You can also go to System Tools and find the Character Map.
