Type a Heart Symbol in Windows

Sometimes, a picture says a lot more than words can convey. Typing a heart (♥) varies depending on what you're doing. Learn how to make a heart in Facebook or Skype, how to find the heart symbol in the Character Map, how to type it in Word, and how to use a keyboard shortcut to type it anywhere.

Steps

Use Facebook or Skype

  1. Type "<3" when you're chatting on Facebook.
  2. The symbol will become a heart after you press Enter in the Chat window.
  3. Find the emoticon box on Skype. Emoticons are on the far left side of the field into which you type your chat message.
  4. Click on the smiley face. Choose the heart from the drop-down menu.

Copy and Paste from the Windows Character Map

  1. Click on the Windows Start menu.
  2. Select "All Programs", "Accessories", "System Tools", then "Character Map".
  3. Choose the correct font. Select the font that you want to use for all of the typing in your document so that the heart fits in naturally. Keep in mind that some fonts may not contain a heart symbol.
  4. Scroll through the characters until you find the symbol of a heart and double-click on it.
  5. Click on Copy.
  6. Return to your document.
  7. Right-click and choose Paste or pres CTRL-V. Adjust the size of the symbol as needed by changing the font size.

Use Microsoft Word

  1. Click Insert on the top bar.
  2. Find the "Symbols" button on the right side and click "More Symbols."
  3. Find the heart symbol, and click "Insert."

Use the Numerical Keypad on a PC Keyboard

  1. Press NumLock until the light adjacent to the key is illuminated.
  2. Find the "ALT" key on your keyboard and hold it down.
  3. Find the "3" key on the number pad.
  4. Hold it down along with the "ALT" key.
  5. Release the keys when the heart (♥) appears in your document.

Tips

  • You won't be able to insert a heart using the numerical keypad if you have a laptop. You need a keyboard with the extra 12-key numerical keypad.
