Make a Corset Dress
If you've ever seen a corset and rara/tutu dress that is way out of your price range, here's a simple set of instructions on how you can create your perfect dress, at the fraction of the cost.

Steps
- Buy a corset in a plain block colour. It needs to have bones, and ties at the back to create shape. If you looking to save, try EBay, there's plenty of good quality but cheap ones on there.
- Buy a tutu or petticoat, Ebay is the cheapest place. It doesn't matter what colour you get it so much, as long as you don't choose the dress to be an obscure colour, it should be fine.
- Do not have spend more than £10 (about $20) on the corset and tutu/petticoat. All you need now is fabric. Depending on your size, you need to buy enough fabric to fit around your corset and tutu/petticoat combination.
- With a good deal, all of the above should not have cost more than £15, £20 at the most ($40). Now all you need to do is put it all together.
- Cut out the basic shape of the corset (it should be a rectangular shape), then sew the ends together, either using a sewing machine or by hand. You then need to hem both ends, and if the corset has straps then add straps (which needs to be hemmed too). Make sure the shape can cover the corset. Then, sew it onto the top of the corset. You should have your material covering your corset now.
- Cut out the basic shape for the skirt. You'll probably need four rectangular shapes, especially if you want a poofy prom-esque skirt section. Do the same for the tutu/petticoat as you did for the corset, until both are covered with your material. Now all you need to do is sew it all together.
- Add a hemmed belt around the joining section, and you're ready to go.
Tips
- For the material, satin is probably the best, especially if you're thinking of making an expensive dress that can be passed off as a designer one. You can buy more than one colour, but it does look classier to have only one bright colour.
- You can make bows out of spare material to cover messy sewing lines. For instructions on how to do so, look on YouTube. There's step by step instructions on bow making.
Warnings
- Be careful when sewing, especially if you're not used to it. You don't want to have to bandage your hand up, drawing attention away from your amazing dress.
