[hide]Steps
- Prepare a solution of one part alcohol, one part water and little table salt. Give the solution a magical-sounding name. Do not allow your audience to see the ingredients. Do not leave the solution open long enough to evaporate the alcohol.
- Soak a dollar in the solution.
- Hold the wet dollar up with metal tongs. Keep away from the bowl of solution.
- Light the solution that is on the dollar.
- The alcohol will ignite. The water will stay in the paper of the dollar protecting it from the flame.
Tips
- The salt in the solution will cause the normally blue alcohol flame to burn yellow. This simulates the appearance of burning paper.
- Did you know that alcohol-based hand sanitizers are very flammable? ...and burn slower than liquid alcohol? Add a touch of salt to make flames yellow.
- Be sure that entire bill is wet. Any dry spot may scorch and burn.
- If you are confident, use larger bills, such as a twenty or one-hundred dollar bill.
- This trick can be used with almost any paper. Make three paper dolls and tell the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
Warnings
- Be careful with flames. Keep a fire extinguisher or a basin of water nearby.
- Don't be scared. If done correctly, nothing bad will happen.
