Make a Flyer in Adobe Illustrator

Flyers come in many standard sizes. For this tutorial, you can learn how to create an A4 size in portrait template. Use the Rectangle Tool to draw the three lines as shown in the picture. One is the outer line. It is a tolerance around your flyer. The second one should be a dashed line, it is a cutting line, set it at A4 size or 210x297mm and 3 a safety line, your text logo elements etc should keep inside this line create it by use a Rectangle tool set it smaller than cutting line approximately 1-2mm from each border of cutting line To make it easier to adjust elements, create a new layer for each part, for this tutorial, there are five layers there are template, background, picture, text and decoration elements.

Steps

  1. Create a new layer and go to File>Place>choose the picture and click OK.
  2. Create another new layer and use the Text Tool to create your word. Change text style by use a Character Tool.
  3. To make your flyer more appealing, create a cute frame for your text. Use the Rectangle Tool to draw a frame and set a stroke to a dashed line. Set it back from your text.
  4. Continue to create your word. After you are finished, select all of the text and go to Type>Create Outline. This step will changed your text to vector, don't forget to create an outline because your text might be lost when open this file in another computer.
  5. Create a new layer and use the Rectangle Tool. Draw a rectangle at the same size with the outer line (line no.1). Colored it by use Gradient Tool, by this, I use two colors, white and pink, set it to radial mode.
  6. Create a new layer and use Pen Tool to draw an element for your flyer (The picture uses the same color tone that is slightly darker than a background)
  7. You should now have five layers, like in the picture. Set it by placing layer 1 at the bottom and set layer 2,3,4 and 5 on top respectively.
  8. Reposition all of element until satisfies.
  9. Before you print, don't forget to close layer2 to make the outline disappear. Now, your file is ready to send to the printer and Print out.
  10. Finished.
