Make a Headphones Container from a Pill Bottle
Anyone who has a pair of earbuds knows that they can be quite a handful to store. Wrap them around your iPhone, and you'll have to unwrap them five seconds later when your mother texts you. Lay them out on a table, and they'll end up sliding down to the floor within an hour. A pill bottle can provide a convenient and much less frustrating alternative storage method. Follow the simple steps below to learn how to make one.
Steps
Making The Container
- Choose which pill bottle you want to use. Try to pick one that is fairly large, empty or nearly empty, and is not too difficult to reach inside. An old pharmacy prescription bottle is a good option.
- Do not use a bottle that has the cap missing.
- Remove any remaining pills. Keep them in a Ziploc baggy or, if they are expired, toss them.
- Put a pair of earbuds in the bottle to see if they fit inside. If not, choose a larger bottle.
- Remove personal and medical information. Peel off the stickers that you can. If it's a prescription bottle, scribble over the top of the cap with permanent marker.
- If you are using a prescription bottle, scribble over any stickers with black permanent marker before throwing them away. If there are any stickers remaining on the bottle that you are unable to remove, take a fork and scrape away at them over a trash bin. That way, no dumpster divers can find your personal medical information.
Storing Earbuds after Use
- Coil your earbuds around your pointer finger gently. Start with the earphone jack and move up your finger slightly.
- Using the thumb and index finger of your other hand, gently pull the coiled earbuds from your finger. Put your thumb at the tip of the coiling finger and your index finger at the root. Slowly pinch them together to maintain the earbuds' coil.
- Place them in the pill container. It is a good idea to have the earpieces at the top so you can retrieve them easily.
- Screw the cap on.
- Finished.
