Make a Humidifier or Air Conditioner

This is a simple way to make a homemade air conditioner and humidifier out of a bottle of water, a table fan, some string, and a sheet or t-shirt.

Steps

  1. Tie a string around the top right side of your cloth.
  2. Wrap the string so that it holds the cloth against the bottom of the safety shield of the fan, leaving some spare cloth at the bottom.
  3. Tie the top left side, making sure the bottom string is still tight. The cloth should now be tight against the fan, held in place by the string.
  4. Put the spare cloth in a water bottle full of water. If there is not enough cloth for it to be safely distanced from the fan then wrap more string around the cloth and put the end of the string into the bottle of water. For this step, the string should be cloth based, so that the capillary action of the water will dampen the cloth.
  5. Change and clean the water daily. If it gets stagnant, it will spread into the air and cause dust, and sickness.

Tips

  • If you do not have a fan with a safety grill, use a hanger, but make sure your setup is safe and stable.
  • Thicker string is better.

Warnings

  • Fan blades are dangerous.
  • If the water has minerals or is stagnant then it can send dust and diseases into the air, this should be avoided.
  • This project can be an electrocution hazard. Always ensure all appliances are unplugged before starting and keep water away from electronics. Do not allow water to drop on the wires.
