Make a Mini Survival Kit
This survival kit was designed to fit in your pocket. It contains a minimal amount of things to keep you alive that you can buy cheap.
Steps
- Gather all of the items in the "Things you'll need" Section at the bottom of this page.
- Use paint thinner to remove the Altoids paint on the outside.
- Clean the inside with a lightly scented soap to remove mint smell.
- Fold the aluminum foil in a way that lets it fit easily into the bottom of the tin.
- Fold the garbage bag the same size as the foil and put some tape around the bag to keep it compact. Put it on top of the foil.
- Place the duct tape on top of the (optional) tea bag.
- Place the box of matches on top of the duct tape to one side of the tin.
- Fit the cotton balls inside the hole of the roll of thread
- Place the small plastic bag filled with the razor blades, fishing hooks, and weights on top of the roll of thread.
- Place the roll of snare wire on top of the "fishing kit."
- Fit the compass and vacuum-packed Tylenol pills wherever there is room left.
- Close the tin.
- Wrap a wide and thin amount of duct tape around your fingers, then place inside the tin. You don't want to prevent yourself from getting access to the items in the tin.
- Wrap the parachute cord around the outside of the tin.
Tips
- You can use the tin as an improvised stove. It can hold Esbit fuel tablets as they burn.
- Wrap the thread around 3 fingers, then tape it to keep it in a "roll" and do the same with the snare.
- Both the aluminum foil and the tin can be used as a signal. Foil can also be used as a pot or cup in which to boil water.
- Put matches in a small plastic zipper bag, 35mm film can, or something waterproof.
- Dry the cotton balls before putting into the kit.
- Pack tightly (see the first link for a picture on how to pack).
- Wrap the duct tape around itself four fingers wide to make it a flat roll. Place it in an Altoids tin.
Warnings
- Do not test this kit far away from your house.
- It is not guaranteed to save your life.
- Careful not to cut yourself on the hooks and razor blades.
