Make a Note into an Envelope
Here's a creative way to save paper: Instead of putting a note in an envelope, why not fold the note itself into an envelope? That way, there's no additional paper to tear open and throw out. Plus, by using sheets of paper with various designs on one side, you can make some pretty original envelopes!
Steps
- Take a piece of notebook paper (any piece of paper) and write your note on the side that will be the interior of the envelope.
- Rotate your piece of paper so that the beginning of the note is to the right and the end of your note is to the left.
- Fold in the top two corners so that they are in the middle. Don't make it too big - you want space at the bottom.
- Fold up the bottom part so that the bottom edge meets the edge of the triangle you made.
- Fold up the bottom part in half again. It should look somewhat like a newspaper hat now.
- Fold one of the bottom sides into the middle.
- Fold the other bottom side to the middle, but a little farther so that you can tuck it underneath other side.
- Fold the pointy part down . To make sure it stays down, attach a small piece of tape or a sticker to it. You can also use a paper clip to hold it down. Or, make sure enough of the "wings" overlap so that you can tuck one of them into the other and they'll stay that way, too. You're done! Give it to whomever you wrote the note to! (and make sure you teach them how to do it, so they can make one for you)
Tips
- When you make the folds, press them down with your thumb. It will stay a bit better.
- Put something into the little envelope for a little surprise. However, make sure it isn't too heavy and that it won't fall out.
- Use cute, decorated paper and give it to someone as a birthday card.
- If you need to use tape flip it upside down so it will not unfold.
- Try hiding it somewhere where the person will find it for a bonus surprise.
- Try not to get paper cuts.
- Try to make all of the edges the same size.
- If you aren't going to write a note, wash and cut a chip bag for a foil lining (it looks cool).
- Make all the edges neat so it look more like an envelope.
- If you decorate the outside, it is more fun to receive and makes it more personal.
Warnings
- The person receiving the envelope may not know that it is a note and rip it apart.
- If you want a bigger envelope use a bigger piece of paper.
- If you make one part uneven, the entire thing will be uneven.
- This size envelope is not mailable in the US. It does not meet the minimum standard for postage and delivery. However is fine for postage in the UK.
- You may make mistakes - just keep trying.
