Sew a Fabric Envelope Purse

Here's a quick and easy fabric purse that resembles an envelope. It can be used as a change or clutch purse.

Steps

  1. Cut two pieces of fabric and a piece of interfacing into matching rectangles of your desired size. Cut one end of the rectangle into a point - this will become the flap of the purse.
  2. Pin the interfacing to the wrong side of one of the pieces of fabric.
  3. With right sides together, stitch the side seams and flap, leaving a half-inch seam allowance. Leave the short side of the rectangle as an opening.
  4. Turn the purse right side out and iron it flat.
  5. Tuck a half-inch of fabric into the opening and stitch it together by hand.
  6. Fold the rectangle to create a pocket.
  7. Stitch the sides of the pocket together by hand.
  8. Place a buttonhole towards the point of the flap.
  9. Align the flap over the pocket.
  10. Sew a Collect Antique Buttons onto the pocket beneath the buttonhole.
  11. Finished.

  • Add on rhinestones and sequins on the flap for a more girly look.
