Make a Plastic Bottle Bird Feeder

It's not always convenient to feed your bird manually. In fact, it can often be tiresome! This quick article will teach you how to make a bird feeder out of an everyday plastic bottle and save money on buying one from the store!

Steps

  1. Take a 500-600 ml plastic bottle with a lid. Cut off the top quarter of the bottle completely.
  2. Take 2 squares of flavourless gelatin and soak them in hot water. Set it aside to soak until soft.
  3. Screw the lid onto your quarter of a plastic bottle. Use it to measure a level scoop of bird seed by using it as a scoop.
  4. Wait until the gelatin is soft. Then pour the bird seed you scooped earlier along with the gelatin into a bowl. Mix it together until the seed is coated in the gelatin. If there is not enough gelatin put more into hot water and mix that in as well.
  5. Pour the mixture back into the top quarter of the plastic bottle. If there is extra mixture feed it to your bird.
  6. Put a plate face down on the bird seed and flip it so that the lid of the bottle is facing up and the plate is covering the bottom.
  7. Take a large hook screw and screw it into the lid of your bottle so that the screw goes all the way into the bottle.
  8. Place the plate and the feeder into the refrigerator. Follow the setting instructions on your gelatin box, and wait for it to set.
  9. Take the feeder out of the fridge. Unscrew and cut away the lid without removing the hook.
  10. Try to remove the quarter of a bottle. It may just slide out, or you might have to use a knife to cut away the plastic.
  11. Hang the feeder in your bird's cage or outside your house. Watch as beautiful birds flock to feed!

Warnings

  • Make sure you get the correct bird seed for your bird and throw the bird seed out after one month.
  • If the bird seed becomes completely wet or soft throw it out and make a new batch.
