Make a Quick Dish of Spaghetti and Tomato Sauce

Making dinner does not have to be extravagant nor taking hours to make. This quick and simple dish can be served in minutes.

Ingredients

  • Warm water
  • Salt and olive oil
  • Your favorite packaged pasta and pasta sauce

Steps

  1. Fill a medium sized pot about 3/4 of the way full with warm water.
  2. Add a teaspoon of salt to help the pasta soak up the water faster and a 1/4 of olive oil to keep the pasta from sticking together.
  3. Turn stove on high and carefully place the pot onto the burner.
  4. Allow the water to come to a boil. Set a timer for 10 minutes.
  5. Find your favorite pasta sauce and empty the jar into a smaller pot.
  6. Cover the sauce with a lid. Leave it to simmer on medium heat.
    • Be sure to stir the sauce periodically to heat it evenly.
  7. Empty the entire package of pasta into the water.
  8. Use a serving spoon to stir the pasta into the water. Set the timer for another 10 minutes.
    • 10 minutes is the average to achieve an "al dente" (cooked, but not hard) texture. Consider double checking the pasta box for the suggested times, as different kinds of pasta requires different times.
  9. Place a strainer in the sink.
  10. Drain the pasta into the strainer. Have caution concerning the boiling water; it's advisable to pour away from you to avoid potential splashing.
  11. Run cool water over the pasta for 15 seconds in order to stop it from cooking.
  12. Shake the pasta in the strainer. Make sure all the excess water is out.
  13. Your sauce should also be hot and ready to be taken off the burner.
  14. Pour the pasta in a larger bowl and serve the sauce over top.
  15. Serve with garlic bread and Parmesan cheese or just eat the spaghetti.

Warnings

  • Be careful when pouring the hot water and pasta into the strainer. The water is hot and can burn you.
