Cook Spaghetti Bolognaise
This sauce is ideal for spaghetti, but can be used with any kind of pasta - great for Lasagna as well. This uses simple ingredients but is very tasty nonetheless!
Ingredients
- 1 pack of mince
- 1 Onion, finely chopped
- 1 Carrot, finely chopped
- 1 Celery, finely chopped
- 1 Oxo cube
- 1 cloves of garlic, either crushed or finely chopped
- 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
- 1 tube of tomato puree
- Mixed herbs
- Glass wine
Steps
- Fry the onion, celery and carrot on low heat in a little bit of oil.
- Add the garlic when they become slightly translucent.
- Wait a few minutes, and add the mince. Turn the heat up to a medium temperature.
- Keep stirring the mince to avoid sticking and burning.
- Turn the heat down to a low temperature when the mince is thoroughly cooked (brown but not burnt).
- Add the Oxo cube and stir in.
- Add the tin of chopped tomatoes and stir.
- Add a small amount of herbs, usually around 1 teaspoon.
- Pour in a good glug of wine, no more than half a small glass and stir until the wine has mixed in.
- Add tomato puree to thicken. Use anywhere between half a tube and a whole one.
- Leave on a low heat to simmer and improve the flavor, preferably for 3-4 hours, though Ok to eat after one hour.
- Finished.
Tips
- Use a good rich red wine as it improves the flavour. Italian Job works well, and it isn't overly expensive.
- Bolognese sauce always tastes better the next day, so it might be best to cook it the day before and refrigerate it, it's also ideal for freezing.
- Parmesan cheese goes very well with this dish, either grate finely or shave for a perfect bolognese. Fresh parmesan is much better than non-fresh
Warnings
- Be careful that you don't get it on your clothes, as the sauce can stain due to the tomato and wine.
- Make sure you don't get any of the wrapper from the Oxo cube in the dish, as it won't be nice chewing on metal.
