Make a Scooter/Moped/Motorcycle Accessory Bar

This bar will enable you to fasten equipment like a camera, a cellphone/and/or a GPS to your scooter steering wheel. This is usually a problem with moped scooters, since there is no exposed pipe on the steering wheel as on classic looking motorcycles.

Steps

  1. Assemble braces into rune S (ᛋ) shape as in the picture. Use machine screws, nuts. To make them stick, use invisible tape, Loctite or or Nyloc nuts.
  2. Expand/drill the hole on one end of each bracket (9mm hole) to make the mirror stem fit.
  3. Put a bracket on each mirror and put back on as in the picture.
  4. Bend braces if they don't make a plane/horizontal "bed" for the pipe.
  5. Fasten tube to braces with hose-clamps.
  6. Fasten camera and phone mount. Use tape to reinforce if clamps seem weak. Adjust so camera will be somewhat level and you're done!

Tips

  • End-caps siliconed to pipe.
  • It could be made prettier by using shorter machine screws and spraying the braces black.
  • Use a smaller pipe, fiberglass rod or stick siliconed into place inside pipe if extra strength is needed.

Warnings

  • If you get pulled/stopped over while filming, inform the officer when he/she approaches "I am audio and video recording for my own safety" and don't start explain more than that -it is NOT a crime in public places in the US (and in most other civilized countries) and don't let anyone trick you into falsely believing anything else. Look it up before you ride and write down the law number/chapter/title.
  • Check local laws -this may be illegal on the roads where you live!
