Steps
- First, it would be a good choice to charge your electric scooter. Most charging ports on electric scooters are at the base of the handle bars, way at the bottom. While the scooter is charging (3 hours-overnight) you should read the manual.
- Before you are ready to ride your scooter, kick the kickstand up. This sounds dumb but it is a common mistake. Turn your scooter on. The switch should be near the charging port.
- Step on your electric scooter with one foot, have the other foot on the ground stabilizing the scooter. On your right handle bar should be the throttle. Slowly turn the throttle towards you and kick off with the foot still on the ground.
- Now that your scooter can move try a turn. Steer it just like a bike.
- The average scooter only runs for 30 minutes to an hour, or {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}. Try to plan trips accordingly.
Tips
- Check the air pressure in the tires before riding.
- Try not to become too dependent on it. Still ride a bike, skateboard, or regular scooter.
- Electric Scooters usually are not allowed on trail systems.
- In some states riding without a helmet is illegal.
Warnings
- Even riding a scooter at low speeds, a crash can be very serious. Always wear a helmet or other protective gear.
- If you are unaccustomed to riding two wheeled vehicles, you may need to re-familiarize yourself with turning while leaning: Lean left when you turn left and vice versa. If you don't lean while turning, you are less in control of your vehicle than you should be because the centrifugal powers wants to push you off the scooter and has less grip on the road than it should have. Do some "slalom" for training on an empty stretch of road before going anywhere!
- Make sure you are in supervised vision while riding your motorized scooters. If you crash and can't get up then you will need a call for help.
