Make an Iced Americano
This is the proper way to make an Iced Americano. Many folks make them. Few do it correctly. It's like Othello - It takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master.
Steps
- Take a 12 oz., 16 oz., or 20 oz. plastic cup and fill it with ice cubes to the rim of the cup.
- For 12 oz. pull 2 shots of espresso. For a 16oz. pull 3 shots, and for 20 oz. pull 4 shots -- into shot glasses, not the cup.
- Pour the above mentioned shots into the cup over the ice so that the shots cool quickly.
- Top the cup off with more ice, to the rim.
- Add chilled filtered water, filling the cup.
- Put a lid on the cup and swirl the cup to mix the drink. Do not use a dirty spoon to mix the drink.
- Enjoy your Iced Americano knowing that the ice will be there long after the drink is gone.
- Finished.
Tips
- Do not pour the shots in and then the ice. The idea is that you get the shots as cool as possible, as quick as possible.
- Do not pull the shots and then fill the cup with ice. The longer the shot sits, the worse it tastes. Think freshness! The shots should be pulled and then go directly into the ice-filled cup.
- Do not use paper cups for iced drinks. .
- After pouring in the shots, add more ice. If there is not enough ice, the drinker will not enjoy the lukewarm "iced" Americano he or she just ordered 2 min. ago.
