Mute a Post from Your Google+ Stream

If you are sick of a Google+ post constantly re-appearing in your feed or sending you notifications from subsequent unrelated comments, you'll want to learn how to a mute a Google+ post. This removes it from your stream and stops sending you further updates about it.

Steps

  1. Open up your Google+ homepage and log into your account.
  2. You will immediately be taken to your stream. Find the post that you want to remove from your stream. This is called muting a post. Click on the arrow in the top right corner of the post, and then select "Mute this post" in the menu that expands.
  3. Alternatively, you can filter your stream to only show certain people at a time. On the left-hand menu, select which circle's posts you'd like to see. Click "More" to access all of your circles.

Tips

  • If you'd like to remove someone from your stream entirely, you can choose to block them (the option is in the same menu as mute is). However, also note that they will be removed from your circles, barred from commenting on your subsequent Google+ posts, unable to mention you in posts, and unable to view any content you share (with the exception of public posts).
  • If you mute a post, but then someone directly mentions you in that same post you will still receive a notification.
  • If you change your mind about muting the post, you can unmute it immediately after.

  • If you'd rather not remove someone so extremely from Google+, it's better to filter your stream so that their posts don't show up.

Warnings

  • After you mute a post and take your browser to a new page, go to the muted person's profile and click the arrow pointing down on the muted post to unmute the post.
