Open Windows Task Manager

Steps

Most Common Keyboard Method

  1. Press the following keys: Ctrl+Alt+Del
  2. Choose the "Start Task Manager" option from the screen that appears containing the options called Lock this computer, Switch user, Sign off, Change a password, and Start Task Manager.
  3. Look for your Task Manager that is displayed on screen.You have opened the Task Manager.

Keyboard Method (Alternate)

  1. Press and release the keys: Ctrl+ Shift+Esc keys. (This will work on all versions of Windows from Windows 95 and up. Windows 3.1 and earlier do not have the Windows Task Manager of "then" using a keyboard shortcut.
  2. Look at Task Manager appear.

Mouse on Empty Taskbar Method

  1. Find an empty place on your taskbar.
  2. Right click this area.
  3. Click on the "Task Manager" option.

Windows 8 or 10 option

  1. Login and access the Windows 8 "Desktop app". Skip this step if running Windows 10, or are already at the desktop.
  2. Right-click the left-most bottom corner of the screen. Or if you'd like, you can press the Win+X keys to open this menu instead.
  3. Find and click the option called "Task Manager". Press the M key to open it up, if you want to use keyboard shortcuts.

Run Dialogue (advanced)

  1. Open up the Run command box on your keyboard. Press the Win+R keys together.
  2. Type in "taskmgr" and either hit the Enter key or click on the OK button.

Command Prompt (advanced)

  1. Open up the Command Prompt program on your Windows computer. Either use the Win+X shortcut as described above and press C to access it, or get into it some other way through your Start menu. On older versions of Windows from Windows 7 to about Windows 95, this option used to be under the System Tools menu of the Applications set in the Programs list of computer tools pre-installed with Windows (if you haven't yet moved them around). Sometimes the Shift+F10 option may work to open this, but in the mere case it doesn't, recognize that your Start Menu will be completely helpful.
  2. Type this simple command: "taskmgr", and hit the Enter key.
