Plan a Sixteenth Birthday Party

So you're 16 at last! You want the best party in your year but you are stuck on how to plan it? Well that is where this article can help you plan a legendary party.

Steps

  1. Check the date. Make sure there is nothing else going on on the day you want for your party.
  2. Ask your parents. Make sure they know what is going on and who will be coming.
  3. Think of a theme. Sometimes a theme can make it a little more fun, and it can break the ice if the people at the party won't know each other.
  4. Get a venue. Make sure you have somewhere to actually have the party. If you can't have it at your house, then make sure you rent a place that everyone will know about.
  5. Think of how many people you want to invite. A small party would be about 3-6 people, medium would be 7-10 and a big party would be anything over 10 people, make sure you have space for everyone though!
  6. Send out invitations. Make sure you get them out at least 2 weeks before the party, and include your address, date and time of the party, as well as a way for them to contact you. There are lots of creative ways to send invites these day. What ever way you do, just be creative and have fun with it.
  7. Get entertainment. Whether it's a DJ or just some party games, make sure you have them, you can't just rely on music and people to keep the party going.
  8. Remind people. About 2 days before the party send out a reminder to people, it can just be small like a Facebook message but you would be surprised how people can forget about events.
  9. Go shopping. Make sure you have food, drinks, and an amazing outfit for your party.
  10. Put away expensive or fragile items in your house. Also put away any alcohol or lock your drinks cabinet, without you knowing everyone could raid your parents vintage wine collection.
  11. Decorate your house. The decorations can be big or small, but they all make a difference, whether it's a few balloons or lighting.

Tips

  • Make sure you have space for everyone. If you have invited 40 people to your small house then try to open it out to the garden, but keep the noise down!
  • Organise your invitations - It might seem like a simple thing, but don't just assume that people will know that they are invited. Make a list of all the people you want to invite (including the obvious best friends, boyfriend, etc) and make sure you send them all invitations with clear instructions about where and when the party will be held, if there is a theme then be sure to put that in as well.
  • Get your friends to help. Ask some of your friends if they can come round a bit early and help you set up the house. They can be a real life-saver!
  • Get music that suits the people there. Make sure everyone will have some music they like.
  • Make sure you have enough money. There is nothing worse than booking a venue for your party and then realising that you don't have enough money to hire a good DJ.
  • Look nice. Loads of photos will probably be taken at the party, so make sure you look your best for them!
  • Ask your parents. Parents all have different rules, so make sure your parents will let you have the party. Also make sure that they know exactly what is going to go on at the party, their idea of a house party might be completely different to yours.
  • Making an event on Facebook can stop the stress of organising invitations, people can see who else is going, when and where it is and they can't lose it!
  • Don't drink; you're too young and you might regret it!

Warnings

  • Try to avoid fights. Don't invite people who hate each other, pick the one you are closest to!
  • Don't let it get out of hand - It can be loads of fun if people bring plus-ones, but you don't want to have your house trashed by the 20 guys who turned up un-invited.
  • Don't try to avoid the blame if anything bad happens. If anything happens that wasn't planned, then don't try to shift the blame. Even if it was someone else's fault, it was your party so you have to take responsibility for everything that happens (also parents/friends' parents are much more sympathetic if you accept the consequences of your actions)
  • Stay sober. If you do decide to have alcohol at your party ( even though its illegal) then make sure that you, as the host, stay sober. If you provide alcohol then you have to be responsible for cleaning up the vomit, helping the drunk people get home and looking after the people who have passed out.
  • Make sure nobody does anything illegal. If your music is loud, which it probably will be, then the police might come, and there is nothing worse than having to explain why there were underage people drinking at your house to the police.
  • Put something in the way of the stairs. If you let couples get up to the bedrooms then things will happen... its best just to have them off-limits.

Things You'll Need

  • Venue (Big enough for everyone invited)
  • Entertainment (DJ/music/games)
  • Food (Snacks etc)
  • Drinks ( Enough for everyone there to have a few)
