Prepare Wooden Skewers

Wooden skewers are used for a variety of foods as kebabs (kabobs), or for other barbecue methods. The skewers need to be prepared properly to prevent splintering or brittleness during cooking.

Steps

  1. Soak the wooden Make Skewered Potato and Zucchini Parcels. Place them in a bowl of cold water. Leave them there for 10 to 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the food to be skewered while the skewers are sitting in the water. Have the food ready to go.
  3. Remove the skewers from the water and lay them on a paper towel. This will absorb any excess water.
  4. Slide the food onto the kebab as usual.
  5. Place on the barbecue or grill and cook. The moistened skewers will not char or burn. However, if you notice the ends have dried out a bit and are catching on fire, you can wrap kitchen foil around them to prevent this.
