Prepare Your Room for a Sleepover

Want to have an awesome sleep over? Well then, you'll need to get your room ready. With a little work and some creativity, your room will be the perfect setting for an awesome sleepover.

Steps

Choosing the best room

  1. Choose a room. It should be relatively big and away from your parents room. Your parents will most likely want to sleep. If your room only has one or two beds, lay down some airbeds or mattresses for your guests.
  2. If your parents ask you to use your actual bedroom (assuming it's too small/near their bedroom), explain why it would be helpful, if you could use a bigger room in a different part of the house where they aren't. Chances are, they'll appreciate you thinking of them and their sleep when asking to use a room where your late night chatting won't disturb them. No one likes to be disturbed or have a cranky parent drop in and yell at you to go to sleep.

Preparing the room

  1. Clean your chosen room. Do this by vacuuming, dusting, washing, polishing and clearing. If you have decided to clear out your room use storage boxes and position items in one corner. Do make sure you have permission from parents if you are not using your own room. Clean thoroughly! Who would want to sleep in a dirty room?
  2. Gather some sleeping bags or covers. Put these with the mats. If people are bringing their own leave this step until they arrive.
  3. Prepare the electronics. For example, get your CD player (or iPod and speakers)set up and ready to start playing when your guests arrive. Also, get heat proof mats out, if you intend on using tongs or straighteners at your sleepover.
  4. Clear away potentially dangerous items such as hot straighteners, tongs or hot plates etc before you plan on sleeping. Remove all sharp items such as glass bottles, screws etc.
  5. Make your bed and pick up your clothes. It will make your room look much cleaner!
  6. If you have a pet in your room, remove it or clean its cage. No one likes a room that smells like a dirty animal!

Decorating

  1. Decorate the room you are sleeping in. Aim for a fun and easy theme, such as candies, stuffed animals or favorite movies.
    • Use banners and hanging decorations.
    • Choose colors you like the most.

Snacks

  1. Prepare snacks. Get chips, popcorn, candy, etc. into bowls or baskets. Make sure these are on a small table and away from where you sleep. Don't have chocolate; it melts everywhere when you are all at the sleepover!
  2. Make small snacks. You can get cherry tomatoes, small pieces of carrot and small pieces of potato (or any other small food such as fruit) and place on toothpicks for easy eating.

Creating the atmosphere

  1. Pump up the music. Put some fries in the oven. Make sure you have hot food to serve. Serve this about an hour after guests arrive so your guests don't get bored. Or order some snacks on your mobile or PC.

Tips

  • Try to keep any siblings out of the room.
  • Have pillows ready in case someone forgets theirs and to be prepared to have a pillow fight.
  • Make sure you have a window in the room so you can get fresh air in.
  • Give out party favors: nail polish, mood rings; cute key chains work, too.
  • Never serve a main meal in the room, if possible. In summer eat outdoors.
  • If you're not in your room, get a bag or pillowcase full of things you'll need during the night (light source, tablet, etc.) , if you're staying up late.
  • Get some heated dips. If your guests arrive late and the fries are cold, they can dip them.
  • Keep cold snacks and drinks flowing. Store energy drinks such as Red bull Or Monster next to the window. There is is nothing worse than a warm Bull.
  • Prepare some games (e.g.: Truth or Dare) before you start to do food. Try to make sure nobody's feelings will get hurt.
  • If possible, have a room you can go into to watch movies-keep the other room for sleeping and games. Also, it reduces the chance of your TV being broken while playing games, and such.
  • If people come too early and the room hasn't done yet, give them a drink and let them put their bags down. And see if they would like to help you decorate. This can also gain some fun.
  • If possible create a space for each friends items so they can put their stuff there so they won't lose it. You don't want your friends worrying about where their bag is or iPod.
  • Get some sleeping bags for great fun!
  • If your guests do not like something in your room move it immediately.
  • Don't go overboard with planning, sometimes it can make you seem bossy and not fun to be around!
  • Make sure the mattresses/beds are close by so no one feels lonely.
  • Try to do things your guest want to do, in order to make them feel welcome.
  • Make your room a VIP room, where only you and your friends can sleep - no siblings and no parents.
  • If your parents tell you and your friend(s) to go to sleep, then do. You don't want to make your parents angry, or it might be your last sleepover!

Warnings

  • Set out the sleeping bags and mats early so that your friends and you can sit on them = more seating!!!
  • Whilst tidying be sure to get rid of dangerous items, such as glass items or hot items.
  • Lower the noise after your parents go to bed.
  • Don't use candles (fire risk!).
  • Never forget to have battery-powered camping lanterns or flashlights. They are safer than lamps which get super hot and can cause a fire.
  • Don't try to stay up all night unless it's a birthday party or a big party. It'll ruin your next day. You'd be too tired to do anything and you'd be in an awful mood.
  • Keep food off the floor.
  • Don't turn the lights off after 11pm, or you may fall asleep.
  • Keep ornaments away from your friends.
