Rebatch Soap (Dried Herb Method)
Easy, fun soap to make without having to use the dangerous and harsh ingredient of lye - because the soap you are using has already undergone this process and you don't need to repeat it. In the soap-making process, very simply, the lye is combined with fats to form a "salt" we call soap in a process called saponification. If you have to do this to form your Make Lye Soap from Biodiesel By products at home, great care must be taken in handling the lye. In this article, you are "re batching" the soap rather than making it from scratch, sparing you from having to add the lye.
Steps
- Pour 1/4 cup boiling water over {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} dried, pulverized herbs (e.g., chamomile or lavender flowers, mint)
- You can add 5 or 6 drops of your favorite essential oil (e.g., lavender, mint) for a stronger scent. Try your favorite perfume if it's not flammable.
- Steep for 15 minutes.
- Bring to a boil and pour over 2 cups shredded Ivory soap.
- Mix well and let stand for 20 minutes.
- Divide into 3 or 6 parts. rolling each into a ball.
- Place on a glass plate and let dry for 3-4 days.
