Recondition a Rechargeable Battery
Is your cell phone or laptop battery holding less of a charge because you plug it in often before the full power has run out? Many devices have a microprocessor which can cause this problem, rather than the battery itself. Here's a simple solution that might resolve this problem.
Contents
Steps
- Allow your device to completely run out of battery power and shut itself down.
- Wait 10-15 minutes (do not charge!).
- Turn the device on again and allow it to shut itself down one more time (this should take 0-10 minutes). After this is done, your device will be fully discharged.
- Charge your device back to full power. Allow the device to charge at least an additional 30 minutes after it has indicated it is fully charged.
- Repeat this process three times (which may take a few days, depending on the device).
Tips
- Time this for charging overnight, so you don't need to disrupt the process by leaving the house with your device.
- After you've completed this process, try to regularly let your device completely run out of batteries before charging it. Otherwise, this process may need to be repeated every 2-4 months.
Warnings
- This will only help if the problem with the battery is frequent charging. If the battery still does not hold a charge, the problem is probably the battery itself.
