Remove Permanent Hair Dye from Carpets

Spilling hair dye on your carpet can be a nightmare. Cleaning it should happen as soon as possible, but even after it has set in, this trick may work. There are 2 methods

Steps

  1. Get liquid dish washing detergent and white vinegar. Mix one tablespoon of each with 2 cups of warm water.
  2. Get a clean (white) cloth. Sponge the stain with your detergent/vinegar solution, blotting frequently with a dry cloth until the stain fades. (It may not fade completely right away, just go to the next steps.)
  3. Sponge the stain with cold water. Again blot until all liquid is absorbed.
  4. Sponge with rubbing alcohol. Yet again blot with a dry cloth to further remove the stain.
  5. Sponge with cold water again. Normally the stain would be gone, but if it's still there, try the next steps.
  6. Get detergent and ammonia. This time mix 1 teaspoon of detergent, 1 tablespoon of ammonia and 2 cups of warm water.
  7. Sponge the stain with this solution. Leave it for around 30 minutes, blotting every 5 minutes with a clean cloth and more solution.
  8. Sponge with cold water and blot dry one final time. If all this hasn't worked, there is another method which has less success but you can try.
  9. Get hydrogen peroxide. Use an eyedropper to put it on the stain, leaving it there for 24 hours. Repeat if necessary. Note to try this on a hidden piece of carpet first for it may remove the color of your carpet.
