Repair a Hole Caused by Rust

Old cars have lots of problems because of rust. It's easy to repair these problems even if rust has caused big holes.

Steps

  1. When you discover this type of hole caused by rust, you firstly have to remove all the rust that you can remove as if it can seem that you will never reach the end of the rust. It’s important to reach healthy body to make a lasting repair.
  2. When you have removed all rust, paint the border of the hole with a rust converter. That will change the rust that you have been unable to remove into iron. Let dry one hour and wash the all body to stop the chemical reaction.
  3. Let the body dry and apply fiber glass on the hole using gloves (the resin is adhesive). Put as many layers of fiber glass as it’s necessary to obtain a resistant result. Between each layer, let the resin dry and sand the result before apply an another layer.
  4. In order to get a good result, apply a thin layer of putty on the fiber glass that will fill in little holes caused by fiber glass. Wait two hours and sand it using a sandpaper until smooth.
  5. Apply a layer of primer that will give a neutral color to your body and sand it.
  6. Apply a duck of the same color that the still body of your car using a spray gun. When you paint the final layer, make sure the temperature is high, it would be easier for you to get a good result especially if you do that for the first time.

  • The best quality for this type of activity is patience, especially when you start painting.
