Send SMS Texts to a Signal Contact

This article teaches you how to send an SMS text message to a friend using Signal.

Steps

  1. Open Signal. It’s a blue icon with a white chat bubble inside. You’ll typically find it on your home screen or in the app drawer.
  2. Tap the pen icon. It’s at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. Select a contact. You can scroll down the list to find the person you’re looking for, or type their name into the box at the top of the screen to search. This opens a text message with the contact.
  4. Tap the typing area to open the keyboard.
  5. Type your message.
    • If you want to attach a file, tap the paperclip icon, then select the file.
    • If you want to take a new photo to attach, tap the camera icon.
  6. Tap the paper airplane icon. It’s at the bottom-right corner of the screen. Your text message is sent.
