Shorten and Improve Results in a Business Meeting

Business meeting time at IBM was reduced by 50% after employees were trained in these strategies. The mnemonic "PEGASUS" will remind you of the key steps the meeting planner needs to employ for higher quality outcomes and a shorter meeting time than usual.

Steps

  1. Present desired meeting outcomes (goals) on a flip chart or board
  2. Explain evidence procedure (the see, hear and feeling info that lets you know you have reached your outcome)
  3. Gain agreement on outcomes (verbally from each participant)
  4. Activate sensory acuity (Pay attention to what is going on visually, in words and voice tones, in your own feelings about all this input)
  5. Summarize each major decision (in words and watch the responses)
  6. Use the relevancy challenge (keeps the meeting on track) "How does that information relate to our outcome?"
  7. Summarize and next steps for each person at the end of the meeting.
