Speed up Cingular Voicemail
Cingular switched the voicemail software of many customers in late 2005, and thus preventing users from deleting messages as they are playing. If you received the software "upgrade", you can use these instructions to set up "Rapid Prompting," which will allow you to quickly delete messages as they are playing.
Contents
Steps
- Dial in to your Cingular voicemail and go to the main menu. If messages are being played for you, hitting the * key will generally return you to the main menu.
- Press 4 for Personal Options.
- Press 2 for Administrative Options.
- Press 3 to select Prompting Level.
- Enter the number indicated to select Rapid Prompting.
- Listen to your voice mail messages. You will now be able to delete any message while still listening to it by pressing 7-7 (that is two 7's in rapid succession.)
Tips
- These instructions only apply to Cingular customers who have received the new voicemail software update. Cingular customers on the "old" voicemail can continue to delete messages at any time by pressing "3".
- Even if it doesn't list some options, it doesn't mean it's not there. Just follow the step 1-4, and in step 5, press 2.
- If you do not enable rapid prompting, the time wasting alternative is to press 3-3 to get to the end of the message and then press 7 to delete it.
- With rapid prompting, all communication from the voicemail system is reduced to a bare minimum.
- This exact same procedure also works for Verizon Wireless voicemail. The menu options are the same down to the number (tried and works - verified).
Warnings
- Rapid prompting disables many prompts. You can press 0 if you need to check which key does what.
