Stay Calm Before an Airplane Ride

People often get stressed-out before airplane rides. This can be a very hard thing to live with. Fortunately, this article will teach you how to get rid of this fear.

Steps

  1. Arrive early. This will give you a lot of time to relax yourself and not miss your flight. It will also give you more time which you can use to follow the steps more carefully.
  2. Meditate. This will calm you down a lot. Count to 10,000 slowly, relax, listen to your breathing. Meditation will certainly work. Be sure to breathe slowly and deeply , in through your nose and out through your mouth.
  3. Put things in perspective. It's a fact that a single flight across America is statistically 261 times safer than a drive across America. Think of that!
  4. Consider that the pilots and stewards / stewardesses think it's safe or they would not do the jobs they do.
  5. When your flight is called, go into the plane slowly, sit down, and meditate until the plane is about to take off.
  6. Relax as best you can and try to enjoy the flight.
  7. Try to get some shut eye.

Tips

  • Double check that you have everything with you. It's better to find out you're missing something sooner than later.
  • Do quick breathing exercises.
  • Remember there is a ton of security at the airport and on the airplane, so it's super safe.
  • Talk to people around you they maybe jittery too!
  • Look out the window when the plane is taking off. This will give you a better understanding of what is happening which will make you less afraid.
  • Do a sudoku or colouring to take your mind off what's going on.
  • Tap your fingers! It'll help distract you. Keep in mind to watch your fingers while breathing calmly, and slowly.
  • If its your first time flying just take your mind off the plane by thinking of how much fun you will have after the plane rides over. If you don't like heights just ask the person next to you to switch seats if you are by the window. If its motion sickness take some gravel before the plane ride starts.

Warnings

  • Do not think about how high you are in the air because you will start panicking.
  • Do not say that the plane is going to crash or the security might not allow you on the airplane. Even if the security do not catch you, you might start to panic.
  • If you have received medication to calm you, make sure to check with your airline and your doctor that it is okay to use when flying. Occasionally if a flight crew or pilot is informed that you are under the influence of drugs (even prescription ones) they may not allow you to fly.
