Telnet in Vista
This is a How-To on doing Telnet in Windows Vista.
Steps
- Open the Start Bar and search Telnet.
- If it does not show anything in Programs do the following.
- Open Control Panel.
- Click on Programs.
- You will see Programs and Features.
- Under that click Turn Windows features on or off.
- Click Continue on the Pop-Up.
- A dialogue box will show up.
- It might take a while to populate the list.
- Go down and look under Tablet PC Optional Components.
- It will say Telnet Client.
- Check the box and do whatever Windows says. It may take a while.
- Once the green bar thing box is gone repeat Step One.
- Then click Telnet there and you are ready to go.
Tips
- Telnet was removed from Vista because of a security vulnerability. You can install Putty on windows, and use it as your telnet client. Putty also supports SSH.
