Tie a Bow on the Back of a Dress

This article will help anyone learn to tie the fashionable, yet tricky, bow found commonly on the back of dresses.

Steps

  1. Relax! It might take you a few times to finally get it, but you will. Have confidence.
  2. Hold the straps of the bow in your two hands.
  3. Cross the left strap over the right strap, leaving extra strap that you can hold onto.
  4. Take the left strap (this should be in your right hand) and tuck it in the circular hole that is between you, the dress, and the straps.
  5. You should now have a knot. Hold the newly tucked strap in your right hand.
  6. Form a loop with your right hand with the left strap.
  7. Take the strap that is in your left hand and cross it over the looped right hand strap.
  8. Pull the strap in your left hand through the loop of the right strap, creating the bow.
  9. Give and take on the bow's tightness to your dress depending on how loose or tight you want the bow to appear.
  10. Use a hand held mirror to check the back in order to see if the bow is to your liking.

Tips

  • Stand to the side in front of a mirror so you can monitor your progress. If you are slipping up, you will be able to see how you things are going wrong.
  • Some bows can slide forward or backward on a dress depending on how they are made. If this applies in your case, turn your belt to the front, tie it, and slide it to the back again.
  • Don't get frustrated. If you try several times and still cannot tie the bow, ask someone close to you to do it (if you are pressed or time), or ask her/him to help by teaching you.
