Ride a Bike in a Skirt

Generally, individuals tend to favor pants or shorts when riding a bicycle, but life can often require certain adjustments depending on various conditions and responsibilities. This article is to help those with specific 'bike to work' type conditions, where changing clothing may not be an option.

Steps

  1. Choose your skirt - Methods may vary depending on length and fit of your dress or skirt, so think forward when dressing or even purchasing.
    • When choosing, it may be necessary to think carefully about the under garment as well, as to not be too revealing -- or more revealing depending on preference.
  2. Preparing your skirt for travel - There are several ways to prepare your billowy attire before approaching and mounting your bicycle, from worst to best they are:
    • Tie a knot in the bottom of your dress -- this is somewhat amateur and may cause wrinkles
    • Fold or pin your dress up -- requires specific tools but can still function well enough
    • Cutting off the bottom of your skirt -- may seem unusual but requires less tools, and your dress will always be prepared for a ride!
    • Tucking your skirt between your legs -- this is the best way because it is always available and with practice can become second nature, although approaching the bicycle will take practice for this method as well.
  3. Approach and mount your bicycle
    • Once you have chosen your skirt, it is important that your skirt or dress does not get tangled
    • Depending on the method of preparation that you have chosen, this may take some hopping or bowing your head in shame because your dress is now ugly
    • Be careful not to scare the bicycle, it should be your friend, not your foe
  4. Ride away!! You've got this. Feel at one with your Bicycle.

Tips

  • Adjust your seat as appropriate before committing to ride! Keep in mind any adjustments that may need to be made accordingly
  • Stop over-worrying. Often times we over think these kinds of things and find out that we could have been wearing pants all along

Warnings

  • Be careful who you ask to send you a wikiHow, they may have too much time on their hands
  • Be aware of how often you feed and tolerate your neighbors - it may come back to bite you in the bike seat
