Toast a Bagel
Everyone wants to know a way to remove a bagel from a toaster without your finger becoming painfully hot. By following these tips and suggestions, you will be able to find out one way for toasters that have side-by-side slots, and relies on the fact that the cut sides conduct less heat than the outer ones.
Steps
- Locate the type of bagel you would like to toast. There are many different types of bagels to choose from, so try any flavor that pleases you. However, make sure that the bagel you choose to toast isn't too big that it will get jammed in your toaster.
- Preheat your bagel toaster. Some toasters have these functions. If not, simply make a test toast so that the bagel toaster gets hot.
- Cut the bagel of your choice into two halves with a bread knife. Place the halves of the bagel into the toaster with the cut sides facing up. Select the toast setting for the darkness you want, or turn on the bake setting and a timer. It may take a few tries to get the bagel to come out the way you like it. It may help to start with a lower setting, because you can always toast it for longer.
- If you use frozen bagels, take them out of the freezer and but the bagel into a microwave for defrosting. Your bagel should not be frozen when you toast it.
- Take a little kitchen paint brush and dip it in water. Now smear the bagel with cold water. If you do that the bagels will become real crispy in the bagel toaster. If you don't like them to crispy simply use less water.
- Grasp both halves between your thumb and fingers of one hand, applying as little pressure as necessary to remove the bagel from the oven once it has been toasted.
- Use a high heating level of your bagel toaster to toast the bagel hot and quick. If you use a high level the bagel becomes crispy outside and really soft inside. Simply delicious. But watch out that the bagels don't burn on the outside. Do not toast the bagel more than 1-2 minutes otherwise it will get burned.
- Take the bagel out of the bagel toaster and quickly start enjoying your crisp and delicious bagel.
Tips
- You may want to put some sort of spread on your bagel after it is toasted. Some good spreads to try are cream cheese, jelly, or peanut butter. Be sure to try all of the spreads to see which one is your favorite!
