Trim a Side Fringe

Want to know how to trim your side fringe? Is the fringe getting too long or uneven, but don't want to pay a hairdresser to trim that for you? Well this is the place to be!

Steps

  1. Put all your hair, except your fringe into a ponytail. This is optional, but it makes it easier as your fringe will be very distinct.
  2. Take your fringe and put it in front of your face, to the middle.
  3. Take your scissors and trim your fringe, but do a little at a time. You can trim straight across or slightly angled upward.
  4. Now hold the scissors vertically. Snip at the very ends, taking care not to tug on your hair. This creates a layered look and looks more natural. This step is optional though.
  5. Take those jagged side scissors (those with combs, they are called thinning shears), Do not use too close to the root of the hair as it will cause short hairs that will stick out. Start at the middle of the hair strands and work your way downward. This is optional. It gives your fringe a layered look and will not be so thick.
  6. Your fringe is now trimmed! Enjoy your updated fringe!

Tips

  • Clipping your fringe to the side when sleeping will help train it stay to the side.
  • Trim when your hair is dry.
  • Have a good pair of scissors to cut your hair with. Do you really want to cut your hair with safety scissors?
  • Make sure you are careful with scissors.

Warnings

  • Cut a little at a time. You can always trim more, but you can't instantly grow it back.
  • Be sure that you know what you are doing. Do not regret after trimming.

Things You'll Need

  • Your fringe
  • A normal sharp hairstyling scissors (blunt ones will turn out ugly)
  • A toothed hairstyling scissors for layering (these are called thinning shears to get that natural layered look)
  • A headband/clip/rubber band to separate your hair from fringe
